MOBILE + CONNECTIVITY / SEPTEMBER 2018–JANUARY 2019
Local Area Disaster System
Exploring communication when ordinary infrastructure fails.
The challenge
Create a mobile peer-to-peer network to relay relevant information to first responders during mass outages.
My contribution
I helped build the product during a 48-hour hackathon, planned the engineering strategy, divided responsibilities, and coordinated the team’s work with Android Studio.
A practical pivot
We moved from Bluetooth to Wi-Fi to improve the effective transmission range. The project became an exercise in choosing a workable approach quickly and coordinating delivery under a tight deadline.
